I think that is great news, mind you I would prefer to stay at Saint Andrews, but it is obvious the club are commited to a new stadium and as such will not will not now rebuild the main stand.

thing is, with it being an all sports village does it mean that there will be a track round the pitch

The Rumour going round the mill ATM is that the stadium will have something to do with Umbro, maybe called the Umbro stadium and that they will help the councill to fund it as they want to get a firm hold in England.

Make of that what you like...........i cant see it happening?

thing is, with it being an all sports village does it mean that there will be a track round the pitch

the seats are retractable, as is the roof. it'd be our own version of the Millennium Stadium, but sexier :banner:

it's not gonna be like Juve's Stadio Delle Alpi as some seem to assume

Yeah, if its like the millenium stadium then yes, cause that is an absolutely brilliant stadium, but if its athletics track round the pitch then "no"

If it means having a tarck around the pitch errrm ...... no thanks

if it helps us to compete with Europe's biggest teams...yes please :D

btw some of the pictures posted are just a model of what the stadium might look like. i doubt the distance from pitch to seats, tier sizes and tier steepness is truly represented in those models.

they wouldnt make us come to the stadium needing binoculars

the rundown...

55,000 all seater stadium, with retractable seats for atheltics (likely to be used as part of a bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games for Birmingham) and cricket (but that's unlikely as Warwickshire Bears have decided to redevelop Edgbaston. click HERE to see the new Edgbaston redevelopment, it's mighty impressive, looks a bit like the City of Birmingham stadium too)

it'll also come with a retratacble roof and sliding pitch (=a vast improvement of pitch quality :ph43r: )

the sports village will include

- a soccer dome
- indoor arena
- basketball
- swimming pool
- health and fitness centre
- tennis courts
- community football facilities
- hotels
- retail
- casino complex (perhaps)

It seems no more than a pipedream at the moment, but a new stadium would really help us on a push towards better things.

All for it, but not getting my hopes up **thumbup

Karren Brady said today that plans for a new 55,000 seat stadium for the club are very much alive and she hopes that a final decision on its viability can be made by the summer.

Blues submitted plans for a stunning new sports village in Saltley last year, which appeared to be dependent on Birmingham being given a licence to build a Super casino.

Despite the unavailability of casino funds now to support the project, the club has been looking at other ways of financing it.

"We're still talking to the council about building a new 55,000 capacity stadium for We're still talking to the council about building a new 55,000 capacity stadium for Birmingham and those talks are ongoing," said Managing Director Karren Brady.

"We hope to have some plans by the summer and at that point we'll know if it's likely to go ahead or not.

"But the council have shown a real commitment to doing this work.

"The site remains the same and it's about funding now.

"A major arm of the funding was due to be the casino and that's obviously gone now, so it's how we fill that hole."

"We really need to help ourselves by putting together a comprehensive plan for council about how a sports village could be done with investment from the football club, from outside investors and investment from the council themselves.

"We have a construction partner in place."

"They are the master planner and are effectively working out what needs to go on that site and what the right mix is to generate enough money from the outside development to build the stadium."

As well as the stadium, Blues and the council would still look to develop the area around the stadium as a sports village for the use of the general public.

"It's not just a football stadium plonked in the middle of a field it would be a community centre, a place where young people could work together, play together and be together, focused around the stadium," she added.

"We're the youngest city in Europe with nothing for young people to do and it would always be a dream to have a sports city."

looks like they REALLY want this to happen
